About this site
Hi, I'm Sarp Balaban. I built this site while continuing my dissertation work through the University of Bath's FED-sponsored research event for the Impact Prize. I've always been genuinely interested in tackling the problem of wind curtailment in the UK, and this project grew out of wanting to make that problem — and what might realistically be done about it — more visible and easier to explore.
This site's design was inspired by Kate Morley's National Grid live dashboard — my thanks to her for showing what a clear, well-built energy data site could look like.

This site tracks live UK wind curtailment, installed and planned wind capacity, and real UK hydrogen demand and trade figures, region by region across Great Britain. It also includes a simulation exploring how much hydrogen could be produced by electrolysers using power that's currently being curtailed.
Where a figure is a real, measured, or officially published number, the site says so. Where it's an estimate or a simulation rather than something that's actually happening, that's stated clearly too, alongside the reasoning behind it.
